We welcome our new board members, Alex and Dan to the team! If you couldn’t make to our AGM, but would still like to get involved, please contact president@secordcommunityleague.com. Open positions are Vice President (2 year term), Neighborhood Watch Zone Leader, and Director at Large( 1 year term – we need 2 or 3). We are also looking for someone with graphic design skills to help us with event publications. If you want to see what we do, come to our next board meeting on June 15, 2015 at 7pm. Maybe you have a special project, or would like to be helping hand at our events, we would love for you to join our team. In terms of our current board, we are very happy that Angela Richardson has accepted the President role for another 2 year term. She’s been an amazing representative for our community, fighting for on behalf for important community issues (ie. Winterburn school, West End Recreation Centre). Our Secretary, Janet, our Membership Director, Andrea and our Communication Director, Jenaya also were nominated for re-election and will continue a 2 year term in their position. Our former Social Director, Carmen has accepted a position as Director at Large. Shawn, our Civics Director and Irina, Treasurer will continue in their position for one more year. We are lucky to have a committed group of volunteers in our community. We also want to express our gratitude to our guest speakers: Councillor Andrew Knack, EPSB Trustee Orville Chubb,ECSB Trustee Debbie Engel and City Representative Duane Boos. A copy of the AGM Minutes will be posted once it has been reviewed.
Nominations and elections for our Executive positions will be held at the Annual General Meeting, on May 4, 2015 from 7:00 – 8:30pm at the Winterburn School Library. Below is a list of positions up for election. All positions are for a two year term, except Directors-at-large which are for one year. President Vice President Secretary Social Chair Communication Director Membership Director Neighborhood Watch Community Representative Director at Large (4-5 required) Descriptions of Board Positions: President: – supervises the affairs of the Board – when present, chairs all meetings, the Board and Executive Committee – acts as the spokesperson or appoints a designate – carries out duties assigned by Board such as signing authority Vice President: – presides at meetings in President’s absence – replaces the President at various functions when asked to do so by the President or the Board – is signing authority – is responsible for the annual review of the Bylaws, Policies and Procedures – carries out other duties assigned by the Board The Secretary – attends and keeps accurate minutes of all General and Board meetings – is responsible for minute and meeting notice distributions – is responsible for minute book and other records of the league – is responsible for the Seal of the league Social Director: – is responsible for all matters pertaining to social events (plan, organize, execute) – form and oversee all event sub-committees Membership Director – is responsible for the organization, timing and completion of the annual Membership campaign – keeps a record of and maintains the membership lists and other records pertaining to membership – ensures compliance with the EFCL Code of Ethics with respect to selling memberships Communication Director – is responsible for the publication of the newsletter and participates in collecting information for newsletter – is responsible for the maintenance of the League website, facebook page and twitter account – arranges for publicity for league events Neighborhood Watch Community Representative – liaises with the Edmonton Police Service and other safety and crime prevention organizations – is responsible for all matters pertaining to Neighbourhood Watch or safety and security concerns – liason between Edmonton Neighborhood Watch (ENW) and community league; receives information, updates, resources and programs from ENW – works with ENW to establish crime prevention programs and strategies in the community Director at Large – holds an introductory Board position with no specific portfolio, but with all the privileges and responsibilities of a Board member. – works with and aids other Board members as required.
